ADVENT

Advent is a Catholic season of preparation and anticipation for both the first coming of Jesus at Christmas and his eventual second coming.  During this four-week period, beginning on Sunday, November 30, we begin a time of prayer, penance, and joyful expectation.

To help you and your family fully enter into the season visit our page of resources and events to prepare you spiritually for the birth of Jesus Christ.

Bishop's Christmas Greeting

December 3, 2025

Indeed our challenges in so many areas of life continue. People of good will long for unity where there is division, hope where there is despair and peace where there is discord. How much we all need the joy of Christmas!

As we celebrate the birth of Our Savior, Jesus Christ. I wish you the peace and happiness of Christmas and I pray that the Child born in Bethlehem will bless you and your loved ones throughout the New Year and always!

You and all dear to you will be remembered in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass during the Christmas season.

With sincere gratitude for your prayers, I remain
Devotedly yours in Christ.
The Most Reverend Salvatore R. Matano
Bishop of Rochester

THE JUBILEE PRAYER

Father in heaven, may the faith you have given us in your son, Jesus Christ, rekindled in our hearts by the Holy Spirit, reawaken in us the blessed hope for the coming of your Kingdom. May your grace transform us into tireless cultivators of the seeds of the Gospel. May those seeds transform from within both humanity and the whole cosmos in the sure expectation of a new heaven and a new earth, when, with the powers of evil vanquished, your glory will shine eternally.
