The Pope and the Bishop want to hear from you!

At the end of 2021, the Church opened the process for the Synod and I was asked by Bishop Matano to be one of the facilitators in our diocese. The following couple of paragraphs will give you a sense of what the synod is about.

“The purpose of the Synod, and therefore of this consultation, is not to produce documents, but ‘to plant dreams, draw forth prophecies and visions, allow hope to be nourished, inspire trust, bind up wounds, weave together relationships, awaken a dawn of hope, learn from one another, and create a bright resourcefulness that will enlighten minds, warm hearts, give strength to our hands.’”

Pope Francis has invited us to reflect on the following questions together:
  1. A synodal Church, in announcing the Gospel, “journeys together:” How is this “journeying together” happening today in your particular Church?
  2. What steps does the Spirit invite us to take in order to grow in our “journeying together”?

There are several themes which have been suggested for us to consider with questions associated with each theme; however, in our most recent facilitator meeting, one suggestion was simply to ask you to verbalize your thoughts, concerns, or comments relative to our Church. I’m asking you to prayerfully reflect on what is important to you and then write your thoughts, comments or concerns to Pope Francis and Bishop Matano. Please allow yourself to be a part of this process and to be heard.

Please place your input on a piece of paper and place it in an envelope addressed to “Deacon Frank Synod input”. All your input is anonymous and I’ll be submitting what you return to me to our diocese. Ultimately your input will be incorporated in our diocesan submission to the Synod.
